Today, Cumberland County Schools announced its 2025 Teacher of the Year Finalists who are representing each attendance area within the district. They are as follows:

  • Cape Fear Attendance Area: Shannon Edwards from Cape Fear High School

  • Douglas Byrd Attendance Area: Matthew Grant from Montclair Elementary School

  • E.E. Smith Attendance Area: Tyera Avery from Margaret Willis Elementary School

  • Gray's Creek Attendance Area: Janet Knotts from Alderman Road Elementary School

  • Jack Britt Attendance Area: Brittany Savoy from John Griffin Middle School

  • Pine Forest Attendance Area: Sara Coursey from Long Hill Elementary School

  • Seventy-First Attendance Area: Carlos Erepol from Seventy-First Classical Middle School

  • South View Attendance Area: Alianna Sigler from Elizabeth Cashwell Elementary School

  • Terry Sanford Attendance Area: Charlon Long from Cumberland Academy 6-12 (Virtual)

  • Westover Attendance Area: Shelly Atkinson from Ponderosa Elementary School


This fall, Cumberland County Schools' 2025 Teacher of the Year winner and runners-up will be announced at the district's Premier Professionals Gala.
